Only a few days old, a pair of loon chicks rides along on dad’s back in North Haverhill, New Hampshire. I could have sworn I heard dad say “don’t make me come back there!”

The pair of adult loons on this pond was easy to tell apart; the female was noticeably bigger than them male. The male was identified when he yodeled, which only male loons do.
